How to make a Google Play feature graphic

  1. Add your app icon and type your app name and a short tagline (one benefit, 3–6 words).
  2. Optionally add a screenshot of your best screen — it's placed in a phone on the right.
  3. Choose colors or a background photo that match your icon and brand.
  4. Turn on the safe-area guides if you have a promo video, so the play button doesn't hide your text.
  5. Download the JPG or 24-bit PNG and upload it in Play Console → Grow → Store presence → Main store listing → Graphics.

Feature graphic design tips

  • Make it readable small. It's often shown at a fraction of full size, so use big text and few words.
  • Keep important things away from the edges — some placements crop the graphic.
  • Don't repeat your whole listing. One clear message beats a list of features.
  • Avoid policy problems: no "Best", "#1", prices, promotions or calls to action like "Download now" in your graphics.
  • Match your icon. Use the same colors so people recognise your app across the store.

Frequently asked questions

What size is the Google Play feature graphic?
Exactly 1024 pixels wide by 500 pixels tall, as a JPEG or a 24-bit PNG without transparency. Google Play Console rejects any other size, and PNGs with an alpha channel.
Is the feature graphic required?
Yes. Every app on Google Play needs one before you can publish. It appears at the top of your store listing when you add a promo video, in featured placements and in some ads and collections.
What should I put on my feature graphic?
Keep it simple: your app icon or logo, your app name and one short benefit, on a background that matches your brand. A phone showing your best screen works well. Avoid small text, prices, rankings and phrases like "#1" or "Best", which Google's metadata policy does not allow.
Why does the PNG download say "24-bit"?
Google Play wants feature graphics without an alpha (transparency) channel. Browsers normally save PNGs with transparency, so the tool builds a true 24-bit RGB PNG for you. The JPG download also works and is usually smaller.
Does a play button cover my graphic?
If you add a YouTube promo video, Google Play shows a play button in the center of the feature graphic. Turn on "Show safe-area guides" to see where it goes and keep important text away from it.
